Filament Review

You are here: Home / 3D Printing / Filament Review
Author: Chris Garrett

A Canadian filament company sent me a couple of spools to review but I can no longer support them so all references to the company are removed.

Canadian filament is worthy of attention for a couple of reasons:

  1. You can be sure it is made under quality control guidelines – Say what you will about regulations, in some cases they can save your lungs, and your 3d printer.
  2. There is someone to get help from, in a reasonable time zone – That can’t be always said of some other brands (or no-name non-branded ebay filaments).
  3. Shipping for Canadians is painful – Price, wait, and getting through customs, all factors – especially when we are talking kilograms.

So I was extremely happy to take it off their hands, especially as they are just up the road in Edmonton.

You will have seen I mentioned their filaments a couple times, first the Blue PLA that I printed the Tardis in, and then their pretty silver ABS, but waited for the review – why?

The problem is my Wanhao Di3 IKEA enclosure has a flaw with fully loaded filament spools, so I had to waste a whole bunch of it to find out if I liked it or not. I mean a whole bunch.

Just look.

But that is not the fault of the filament, so here is the review.

Other than my enclosure-inflicted issues, the silver ABS printed very well with no warping, cracking or other ABS issues (and it didn’t smell terrible either), and the Blue PLA was awesome for the Tardis print.
